WASHINGTON (June 12) – After a recent cyber attack on Sony Corp by a hackers group called ‘Lulz Security’; the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has become the latest known target of a major cyber attack on its computer network and systems.

A cyber-security expert, who has worked for both the IMF and the World Bank, said the hackers' mission had been to install software that would give a nation state a "digital insider presence" on the IMF network.
The software, if installed successfully, could transfer non-public economic data used by the IMF to promote exchange rate stability, support balanced international trade and provide resources to remedy members' balance-of-payments crises.
